Milan

About 12.4 percent of non-EU citizens legally residing in Italy live in Milan.

A men's soccer team, with the goal of promoting acceptance through the universal language of sports.

This social project aims to enhance the sporting excellence, human and social experiences, and personal enrichment of young people by leveraging their diversity as a strength.

The team

A multicultural team:

  • 1/3 Italian players
  • 2/3 foreign players

Over 30 young people between the ages of 18 and 40, from 14 different nationalities: Italy, Nigeria, Ethiopia, Gambia, Ivory Coast, Guinea, Togo, Ghana, Mali, Egypt, Pakistan, Senegal, Morocco, Perù, 30% of whom come from the Centri di Accoglienza Straordinaria (CAS) of via Corelli, via Aquila and via Padova in Milan.

The goals of the project

To promote acceptance among young people of different backgrounds through the language and practice of sports

1. Promote education and well-being

2. Overcoming prejudices

3. Strengthen community cohesion

Sports activities

Two weekly practices at the Scarioni Sports Center, 10 Thucydides Street.

After participating in 2021/2022 in the CSI Open B championship, and in 2022/2023 in the CSI Open A championship, from the 2023/2024 season the team is registered in the FIGC Third Category championship.

The “Italian in the Ball” course

The project offers an Italian language course for players who wish to learn or improve the language, with a special focus on soccer.

The course covers all major aspects, from grammar to conversation.

Objective

To deepen the language of soccer with the Game-Based Learning method, offering a weekly meeting in dedicated spaces.

The third half

The project involves organizing a rugby-style “third half” after each home game, involving friends and relatives of the players, as well as members of the opposing teams.

Objective

To promote fair play to eliminate the distance between the stands and the field.

Happy hour

The project involves the periodic organization of a social event (a happy hour, dinner, movie or theater night) every 8 weeks.

Objective

To strengthen the bond between teammates and increase penetration between distant social fabrics.

Under implementation

Within the project there are activities to support job search (in collaboration with Consorzio Mestieri Lombardia) and housing (in collaboration with Milano Abitare).

TESTIMONIALS
Boys play well if they are a united group.

Coach

Many come with the idea of just getting a job. They don't know people and don't know the language.

Player

Teaching is for us (Italians) mostly. There are different cultures and a lot of difference.
This is often a difficulty, but for this very reason it is a lesson for me.

Tutor

If I need I can ask Tommaso (one of the managers).
